We grew up going to Collingwood and Blue Mountain every single weekend, rain or shine. The drive from Toronto is usually 2 hours but sometimes can stretch to 2.5 or 3 depending on traffic. This made for great driving time bonding with family and friends.
Thinking back on our memories from the 90s - my younger sister and I used to groan when my dad would pop in his Reba McIntyre CD into the baby blue Dodge Durango he bought on sale. "Not Reba!!! We can't take it anymore!" My dad absolutely loved country music, and he adored strong powerful female vocalists.
"Listen to the LYRICS!" he would respond. "She is so POWERFUL!" My dad was raising two girls in the 90s and he wanted them to be strong, independent, and free. Looking back now, I am so grateful for that energy. Anyway, he purchased every single Reba CD and we were not feeling very free at the time having to listen to it on loop for 2 hours.
So... in making this playlist, I have been collecting my personal favourite songs to listen to while I drive my little kids to Blue Mountain, including some of their favourites. The list spans R&B, folk, country, acoustic covers, classical, clean 'kid' versions of popular songs, and yes....Reba McIntyre. I had to :)
