The Blue Mountain area has access to some of Ontario's finest freshwater beaches. This guide helps you choose the right one for your family.
Wasaga Beach
The world's longest freshwater beach, stretching 14 kilometres. Beach Areas 1 and 2 are the busiest with shops and lifeguards but most crowded. Areas 3 and 4 offer a good balance of space and accessibility. Areas 5 and 6 are quieter with more privacy but fewer amenities.
Family tips: Arrive before 10:00 AM on weekends, bring shade, and water shoes are optional but helpful.
Collingwood Beaches
Sunset Point Park
Sandy beach just minutes from downtown Collingwood with a beautiful sunset view, park amenities, and playground facilities. Less crowded than Wasaga.
Millennium Park / Harbourview Beach
Near the harbour with calm, sheltered water, a nearby playground and splash pad, and walking distance from downtown.
Thornbury Beach
Charming small-town beach with calm harbour water, nearby shops and restaurants, and beautiful Escarpment views.
Craigleith Provincial Park
Not a traditional sandy beach but excellent for fossil hunting on the shale shore. Clear water and provincial park facilities. Best for families with older, nature-loving children.
