Dog Beaches Near Blue Mountain
Nothing beats watching your pup splash in the water on a sunny day. Here are the best dog-friendly beaches in the area:
Beautiful Joe Dog Beach (Meaford)
Located at Memorial Park in Meaford (about 25 minutes from Blue Mountain), this dedicated dog beach is the perfect spot for water-loving pups. The beach is named after Beautiful Joe, a famous dog from a bestselling 1893 novel written by local author Margaret Marshall Saunders. Dogs can run free and splash in the shallow waters of Georgian Bay.
- Location: Memorial Park, Meaford
- Drive time: ~25 minutes from Blue Mountain
- Features: Sandy beach, shallow water, off-leash area
Wasaga Beach Dog Beach (Area 3)
Wasaga Beach Provincial Park — the world's longest freshwater beach — has a designated dog beach in Area 3. Look for the wooden fence markers at the east end of the Beach Area 3 parking lot. Dogs must be leashed (max 2 metres), but it's a beautiful stretch of sand where your pup can enjoy the water.
- Location: Beach Area 3, Wasaga Beach Provincial Park
- Drive time: ~20 minutes from Blue Mountain
- Note: Dogs must be on leash; only permitted between the marked fences
Northwinds Beach
A local favourite closer to Blue Mountain, Northwinds Beach allows dogs to frolic in the sand and splash in Georgian Bay's clear waters. It's a quieter alternative to the larger beaches.
Dog Parks & Off-Leash Areas
Beautiful Joe's Leash-Free Park (Meaford)
This excellent dog park features two separate fenced areas — one for small dogs and one for larger breeds. There's a water tap, shade, waste disposal bags, and picnic tables. It's the perfect spot to let your dog socialize and burn off energy.
- Address: 162 Edwin Street, Meaford
- Features: Two fenced areas (small & large dogs), water tap, shade
Beautiful Joe Park
Right next door is the 8.5-acre Beautiful Joe Park on the banks of the Bighead River. This peaceful, wooded park celebrates canine heroes with monuments to service dogs, K9 teams, and family pets. Dogs must be on-leash here, but it's a lovely spot for a scenic walk.
Collingwood Off-Leash Dog Park
Located at Poplar Side Road between Hurontario Street and Raglan Street, this fenced dog park is great for letting your pup run free closer to town.
Dog-Friendly Hiking Trails
The Blue Mountain area has over 285 km of public trails, and most welcome leashed dogs. Here are the highlights:
The Georgian Trail
This 34 km multi-use trail follows the old Northern Railway route from Collingwood to Meaford. The flat, paved path is perfect for dogs of all ages and fitness levels. With over 30 access points, you can do as much or as little as you like. The trail passes apple orchards, golf courses, and scenic waterfront areas.
The Bruce Trail
Canada's oldest and longest marked footpath runs through the Blue Mountains, and leashed dogs are welcome on most sections. The Blue Mountains Club section runs from Lavender to Craigleith and includes the highest elevation (540m) on the entire Bruce Trail at Osler Bluff Lookout. Just be sure your dog is fit enough for the terrain.
Pretty River Valley Provincial Park
This trail system near Collingwood offers various loops suitable for all fitness levels. Dogs are welcome on-leash, and the trails are accessible year-round — great for both summer hikes and winter snowshoe walks.
Trail Etiquette
All dogs must be leashed on trails in the Blue Mountains and Collingwood area. Always pick up after your pet and dispose of waste in proper receptacles. Bring water for both you and your pup on longer hikes.
