Little River Park, the beach in the heart of Thornbury
Little River Park at 4 Harbour Street places a pebble beach, playground and picnic space next to the harbour, a short walk from the shops on Bruce Street. The Town posts hours of 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. It is the easiest spot to combine a swim or a paddle with lunch in town.
Parking needs a check before you go: the Town began a partial closure of the gravel lot on June 8, 2026, with completion estimated for late September or early October, and that estimate is not confirmation of reopening. Our Little River Park page tracks the notice. Bayview Park on Bay Street East, nearby, is a waterfront park with a playground and covered pavilion rather than a swimming beach.
Sandier shoreline between Thornbury and the chalets
Families who want sand rather than pebbles have three options along Highway 26 and the shore:
- Council Beach, 105 Lakewood Drive: a small park with a sandy-pebble shoreline, swings and picnic tables; paid parking and a portable toilet; tents and barbecues are prohibited.
- Peasemarsh Park: a sand-and-pebble waterfront with a washroom, paid parking and trails into the conservation area next door.
- Northwinds Beach: the sandy park closest to the chalets, ten minutes from the Mountain cluster and five from Aqua Villa.
Council Beach and Peasemarsh are about fifteen minutes from the cluster and ten from Aqua Villa. Our answer on beach washrooms and hours compares facilities.
A Thornbury beach day from a Blue View chalet
Thornbury is about seventeen minutes from the Mountain cluster and fifteen from Aqua Villa. A beach morning at Little River Park, lunch on Bruce Street and a walk to the Beaver River fishway make a full day; the Town says salmon are broadly active there from late August to late October. Our Thornbury guide lists the cafés and shops.
Groups who want to stay closer to the town can compare options on the chalets near Thornbury page.
