Niagara Falls to the Blue Mountain chalets: distance and route
We routed from Niagara Falls City Hall on Queen Street to 104 Brooker Boulevard: 241.8 kilometres and 210 minutes with no traffic. The route follows the QEW, the 407 ETR, Highway 403 and Highway 410 north, then runs through the countryside to Highway 26 and the Georgian Bay shore.
The 407 is a toll road. Skipping it is possible; set your navigation to avoid tolls before you leave and compare the time it shows against the toll route. Our route guide from Toronto covers the northern half of the trip in detail.
Fitting the Niagara drive into a three-night Blue Mountain stay
Seven hours of round-trip driving is a lot for a two-night weekend. A Friday-to-Monday stay on a long weekend, or a midweek block, gives the group two full days on the hill or the bay. Leave Niagara by early afternoon to reach the 4:00 p.m. check-in with time for groceries in Collingwood.
Long weekends carry their own minimum-stay rules; read the minimum stay answer before you choose dates. Each chalet parks four vehicles, so two or three Niagara cars can travel separately and leave on their own schedules.
The escarpment link between Niagara and Blue Mountain
Niagara visitors are driving from one end of the same landform to its middle. The Niagara Escarpment Commission describes the escarpment as spanning 725 kilometres from the tip of the Niagara Region to the top of the Bruce Peninsula, and Blue Mountain's ski runs are cut into it. Our answer on whether Blue Mountain is a real mountain explains what that means for the terrain.
In winter, the last hour of the drive is the part to watch: Georgian Bay squalls can bring sudden snow near Collingwood while Niagara is dry.

Is there a way to avoid the 407 toll from Niagara Falls?
Yes. Choose the avoid-tolls option in your navigation app and check the route and time it proposes before you set off.
Is Blue Mountain a reasonable weekend from Niagara?
It works best as a three-night stay. Two nights leaves one full day after about seven hours of combined driving.
How far is St. Catharines?
We did not route St. Catharines separately. It sits on the QEW before Niagara Falls, so the drive is somewhat shorter.
Where should a Niagara group stop for groceries?
Collingwood, about fifteen minutes before the chalets, has the large supermarkets most groups use. Our grocery guide lists the options and timing for arrival day.
