Spending one long-weekend day on Hogg’s Falls
A two-night weekend has one full day, and spending nearly two hours of it in the car is a lot. A three-night long weekend gives two: one for the falls and the Grey Highlands countryside, one closer to the chalet. Arrival is at 4:00 pm on the first day and check-out at 11:00 am on the last, so the falls belong on a middle day. Long weekends can carry a minimum above the standard two nights; each chalet’s live calendar shows it.
Leave mid-morning with lunch packed from the chalet kitchen. The walk, the drive and a countryside stop fill most of the day.
Choosing the Hogg’s Falls route at Lower Valley Road
Drive to the named parking area on the west side of Lower Valley Road. Civic-address listings for the falls differ, so a generic waterfall search is less reliable than that trailhead. From the car park the falls on the Boyne River are a walk, and the Bruce Trail Conservancy describes a 2.6-kilometre loop using the Boyne River Crossover Side Trail and the main trail. Choose between that loop and a there-and-back walk before setting off.
Wet rock, leaf cover or winter footing can change what the group is comfortable walking, so let the least confident friend set the turnaround.
A chalet for friends coming back from Hogg’s Falls
Friends tend to want equal rooms. The Omega and The Vega give three couples queen rooms and put everyone else in two bunk rooms. The Corona adds a dry sauna and two gas fireplaces; The Luna a steam room and two gas fireplaces, which is a good end to a long day out. Each has a private hot tub. If the group wants a second waterfall, Eugenia Falls makes a separate day, and the falls and lookouts itinerary strings several stops together.
Cars and drivers for a Hogg’s Falls day
Each chalet allows up to four vehicles, but there is no reason to take four to a trailhead. Pile into two or three, and agree on a designated driver before the day if it ends with a cidery or brewery stop on the way home. A dog can come along on the outing; at the chalet the rules keep dogs leashed outdoors and out of the hot tubs. The chalets near Flesherton page covers more of the area around the falls.
