Where should a paddling group stay for the Beaver River?

Snowboarders enjoying a sunny day on the mountain – Where to Stay for Paddling the Beaver River, Ontario
Short answer
A paddling group running the Beaver River from Kimberley to Epping should book a cluster chalet or Aqua Villa from the summer rentals: both are about 30 minutes from Access Point 1 on Grey Road 13, while 44L is about 35. The Kimberley-to-Epping paddle is a ten-kilometre stretch that Grey County warns can take several hours, so the stay should leave a whole day for it.

The Beaver River shuttle starts at the chalet

The trip ends at Access Point 2 in Epping, so somebody has to move cars. The chalets help: each has four parking spaces and the policy allows four vehicles per chalet, enough for a two-car shuttle with room to spare. Decide the night before which car waits at Epping, who drives back to Kimberley, and how the boats travel. If an outfitter supplies boats or a shuttle, follow its meeting instructions instead.

Ask Blue View before booking about keeping canoes or kayaks at the chalet; the listings do not mention boat storage, and a roof rack overnight may be the simplest answer.

Who should paddle the Kimberley to Epping stretch

Grey County notes debris, log jams and beaver dams that may need a portage, and a calm launch says nothing about the rest of the route. That suits paddlers who can carry a boat around an obstruction, not a first-timer’s introduction to rivers. Fit flotation to each person and make the slowest paddler’s pace the group’s pace. The winding river makes the distance on the water longer than the short road hop between the two access points.

Non-paddlers can make a land day of it; the Beaver Valley and Kimberley guide suggests what to do nearby while the boats are out.

Drying out at the chalet after the Beaver River

Every chalet has a private hot tub, and the cluster chalets and 44L list an ensuite washer and dryer for wet gear; Aqua Villa lists a washing machine only. From May to mid-September, cluster guests also have the shared heated pool. A group of eight to ten fits The Vista or Aqua Villa; twelve to fourteen suits one of the larger cluster chalets. More planning for groups on the water is on the paddling group page.

Check-in is at 4:00 pm, so the river belongs on a full day in the middle of the stay rather than the afternoon you arrive. On a Friday-to-Sunday weekend, that day is Saturday.
