A family relaxing together at a mountain cabin – Where to Stay for the Open-Air Gondola, Blue Mountains
Short answer
A three-generation family of up to 14 should take one of the large chalets at 104 Brooker Boulevard, where the balconies face the ski hill, listed on the mountain-view chalets page. The cluster is a 10-minute walk from Blue Mountain Village, home to the lift plaza for the Open-Air Gondola, and about 5 minutes by car to P1 South parking; 44L and Aqua Villa are about 10 minutes from that lot.

Splitting a family of fourteen across Open-Air Gondola cabins

The resort lists a maximum of eight people per gondola and may combine parties when it is busy, so a family of fourteen rides in at least two cabins. Pair a grandparent or parent with each set of children, since a guest must be 122 centimetres tall to ride alone. Agree on where to wait at the top before anyone boards, and keep the tickets with one organizer.

Strollers, wheelchairs and dogs at the Blue Mountain gondola

The published limit for strollers, wagons and wheelchairs is 81 by 112 centimetres; measure beforehand and ask the resort about boarding for anyone with specific needs. Pets are not permitted on the gondola, so a family travelling with its dog needs a plan for that part of the day, and should ask Blue View about leaving a dog at the chalet before booking. The cluster chalets are three-level homes with the kitchen on the top floor, so raise stairs with Blue View too if a grandparent finds them hard.

A 14-guest chalet for an Open-Air Gondola family

The Aurora, The Corona, The Luna and The Prima each sleep 14 in five bedrooms. Aurora’s three queens are all on the main level, which helps when grandparents and two sets of parents each want a queen; the other three put two queens on the main level and one downstairs, and add a dry sauna (Corona) or a steam room (Luna and Prima). Each has a private hot tub. More than fourteen means two chalets side by side; the multigenerational trip page covers that.

Walking from the Open-Air Gondola summit

Consult the current resort map before choosing a trail at the top: some routes loop back and others finish elsewhere. Make any longer walk optional, so grandparents can ride down while others hike. The guide to views around Blue Mountain puts the summit in context with other lookouts.
