Three generations in one chalet: a worked room plan

The organizer’s job is to put each generation on the right floor. In the cluster, the kitchen and living room are on the upper floor, queen bedrooms on the main level, and the bunk rooms on the lower level. In Aurora all three queens are on the main level; in Corona and Luna, one of the three is downstairs with the bunk rooms, which suits a parent who wants to sleep near young children. Reserve on the chalet’s calendar, such as Aurora’s.

Aurora’s second bunk room is listed without a room capacity, so confirm it before planning all fourteen there.

Stairs, the kitchen and the grandparents on a family trip

Every cluster chalet has three levels, so main-floor queens still mean one flight up to every meal. Settle that with the oldest travellers before booking; which chalets have main-floor bedrooms and the accessibility answer give the detail, and photographs are no substitute for asking. Aqua Villa’s published bedroom list gives no floors, so ask about its stairs too. Grandparents who want a quieter evening than the cousins can take their own chalet next door.

Outings for every age on a multigenerational trip

  • Everyone: the Open-Air Gondola from the Village, 5 minutes, for views of the escarpment and Georgian Bay; it has its own age, height and mobility-device rules. Cascade Putting Course is near its base, with under-sixes playing alongside an adult.
  • Young children: the playground at Heritage Park on Kandahar Lane, 5 minutes; Northwinds Beach on the bay, with a playground, 10; pottery painting at Crock A Doodle in the Village, 5.
  • Teens: guided trail rides at Mountain View Stables for riders twelve and up, 5 minutes.
  • Grandparents: the Craigleith Heritage Depot museum in a former railway station, 10 minutes; Collingwood Museum, 15.
  • A farm morning: Valley Ridge Family Farm near Ravenna, 15 minutes, with animal visits and wagon rides booked ahead.

When the multigenerational trip outgrows one chalet

Three generations of more than fourteen take two chalets side by side, which also lets the grandparents keep a calmer house: Luna and Prima sleep 28, and Aurora and Vista sleep 24 beside the pool, open May to mid-September. Every chalet is pet-friendly with a pet fee, one dog standard. Stays run two nights or more, 4:00 pm to 11:00 am. Relatives who are not staying cannot visit for the day, so cousins who live nearby are booked in too. A reunion of several branches, rather than one family across three generations, belongs on the family reunion page, and the activity guide is multi-generational vacations at Blue Mountain.
