A few practical notes from how the night tends to run:
- It is an outdoor event. Dress like you are standing outside in an Ontario ski town in January, because you are. Layers, real boots, and something warm to hold.
- Fireworks are weather-dependent. High winds have forced cancellations in past years. If the display is the centrepiece of your night, have a plan B back at the chalet.
- The Village fills up. Restaurants and bars take reservations and sell out well ahead of December 31. If you want a group dinner out, book it when you book your stay — or skip the crowds entirely and cook (more on that below).
- Night skiing and regular resort operations typically run through the holiday week, so you can ski the day of and still be showered and celebrating by evening.

Booking a Chalet for New Year's Eve
Honest advice, with no fake urgency: the week between Christmas and New Year's is the single most requested stretch of the winter, at every accommodation provider in the area. Groups that get the chalet they want for NYE are the ones that book as soon as their dates and headcount are fixed — for many groups that is late summer or early fall.
Things worth knowing before you book:

- Occupancy is a real limit, not a suggestion. Each chalet's maximum guest count (10 to 14 depending on the chalet) is enforced under the Town of The Blue Mountains rental by-law. Pick the chalet that actually fits your group — our chalet-choosing guide walks through it.
- Renters must be 25 or older (unless accompanied by parents), and a security deposit is authorized on check-in. New Year's groups are welcome; house-party crowds are not — quiet hours and occupancy rules apply even on December 31.
- Book the whole stretch if you can. Groups that stay three or four nights get the fireworks night plus real ski days on either side, and midweek holiday nights are easier to secure than the 30th and 31st alone.
Making the Most of the Night Itself
Dinner is the event before the event. The best chalet NYE dinners we hear about are the simple ones done well: a big roast or a raclette spread, appetizers through the evening instead of rigid courses, and a dessert that comes out just before everyone bundles up for the Village. New Year's Day at Blue Mountain is one of the quiet gems of the winter — the hills are often calmer in the morning while everyone else sleeps in. Late risers can walk the Village for brunch, hit a spa (Scandinave Spa is roughly a 4-minute drive from our Mountain Property — book well ahead for January 1), or take the classic first-hike-of-the-year along the Bruce Trail. Check-out on your last morning is 11:00 am, so a January 2 departure gives you a full day of recovery skiing before the drive home.
