Planning a church retreat that fits a residential property

A church retreat at Blue View is a group of registered guests staying in private homes, which shapes three parts of the programme. The speaker stays: day visitors are not permitted, so a guest preacher or worship leader is booked into a bed like everyone else. Worship is unplugged: the Town noise by-law applies at all hours, so singing stays at living-room volume and there is no PA. Sessions happen in living rooms, not a hall, so a large plenary needs a venue in town. Within those lines the cluster works well, because Aurora, Corona, Luna and five more chalets sit side by side, each reserved on its own calendar, such as Aurora’s. Sizing the church retreat: one chalet per ministry or household

Small groups and leadership teams of 10 to 14 fit one chalet. A men’s and women’s retreat run together often takes two, one house each; two adjacent chalets hold up to 28. A parish weekend with families takes three to five chalets, up to 69 guests, and the whole congregation takes the eight-chalet property buyout: 39 bedrooms for up to 104. Older members take Aurora’s three main-floor queens; Vista and Stella each have a twin room for two members who will not share a bed; children take the bunk rooms below. Meals and devotions across the church retreat chalets

Every chalet has a full kitchen, and Aurora, Omega, Corona, Stella, Luna and Prima each seat ten at the dining table. A pattern that works is a rota: each house cooks its own breakfast, and the cooking of dinner rotates so every kitchen takes a turn; confirm with the team when booking if the group plans to eat together in one chalet. Grace before dinner and evening devotions can gather at the gas fire pits between the homes. Unless the group has booked every chalet, other guests share that patio and the pool, open May to mid-September, so keep worship there short and quiet. Sunday morning and the church retreat’s booking steps

Check-out is at 11:00 am, so a closing service at the chalet starts early, or the group drives to a local congregation after checking that parish’s own service times. Arrival is from 4:00 pm, with a two-night minimum. To book, collect the headcount by household, choose the chalets, then reserve each one on its live calendar; the owner allows any chalets to be booked together when the dates are free. Church retreats: frequently asked questions

Can a guest speaker attend our church retreat for one day?

Only as a registered overnight guest. Blue View does not permit day visitors, so book the speaker a bed in one of the chalets.

Can we hold worship with a sound system at the chalets?

No. The noise by-law applies at all hours; keep singing and music at a volume that does not carry beyond the chalet.

How many people can a church retreat bring to the cluster?

Up to 104 across the eight chalets, each within its own licensed maximum of 10 to 14.

Is there a meeting hall for a church retreat?

No. Sessions happen in each chalet’s upper-floor living room; a large plenary needs a venue booked separately in town.
