Why a cross-country ski group books Corona

After a day of double-poling, heat matters more than the view. Corona sleeps 14 and has a private dry sauna, two gas fireplaces, a year-round hot tub and an in-unit washer and dryer for damp layers. Its kitchen lists a freezer and baking sheets, useful for a club that cooks for itself. A club of 20 or more adds Stella next door, which has its own dry sauna; Corona and Stella together sleep 26. Corona is unit 5 at 104 Brooker Boulevard, a 10-minute walk from Blue Mountain Village, and books on its own live calendar.

Three trail systems for a cross-country ski group

  • Kolapore Wilderness Trails, main trailhead at 495436 Grey Road 2, about 25 minutes: ungroomed backcountry skiing. The main trailhead leads to challenging trails; the association directs less experienced skiers to the County Forest access at Grey Road 2 and the Osprey–Blue Mountains Townline.
  • Highlands Nordic, 1182 Concession 10 South, Duntroon, about 30 minutes: classic and skate skiing, snowshoeing, rentals and lessons. Its 2026–27 winter hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, with trails opening when snowfall permits; closed Christmas Day.
  • Wasaga Nordic and Trail Centre, 101 Blueberry Trail, about 40 minutes (45 from 44L): skiing and snowshoeing with rentals and warming facilities; check the Ontario Parks snow report first.
Day plans for each are in where to stay for Highlands Nordic and where to stay for Wasaga Nordic.

Splitting a cross-country ski group by pace and technique

Clubs rarely ski at one speed. Strong skaters can take Kolapore’s backcountry while newer members book lessons and rentals at Highlands Nordic, then everyone meets back at the chalet. With four parking spaces per chalet, plan the cars around the split before you leave home. Pack trail lunches in the chalet kitchen the night before so nobody drives back at noon. Kolapore asks winter visitors to leave dogs at home and Highlands Nordic limits dogs to a designated route, so decide who stays with a dog on Kolapore days.

Before the snow: the ski swap for cross-country ski groups

Highlands Nordic lists its Booathlon on Sunday, October 25, and Ski Swap on Saturday, October 31, 2026, a pre-season chance to fit out newer members. A swap weekend uses the same chalet routine as a ski weekend: check-in 4:00 pm, check-out 11:00 am and a two-night minimum. In winter, call ahead about trail conditions before every drive; snowfall decides opening.

Cross-country ski groups: frequently asked questions

Can we snowshoe on the Kolapore trails?

Not in winter. The trail association asks visitors to keep walking, snowshoeing and biking off the ski network; Highlands Nordic and Wasaga Nordic both offer snowshoeing.

Are the Kolapore ski trails groomed?

No. Kolapore’s winter network is ungroomed backcountry skiing, and the main trailhead leads to challenging terrain.

Can I bring my dog cross-country skiing?

Kolapore asks winter visitors to leave dogs at home, and Highlands Nordic restricts dogs to a designated route. The chalets accept one dog as standard, with a pet fee.

Where can beginners rent cross-country skis?

Highlands Nordic in Duntroon offers equipment rental and lessons, and Ontario Parks lists rentals at Wasaga Nordic. Check current conditions before driving.

Which chalet suits a cross-country club of ten or twelve?

Stella sleeps 12 with a private dry sauna, and Aqua Villa sleeps ten with an indoor steam shower on Georgian Bay. Corona and Luna each take up to 14.
