Vaughan to Blue Mountain: one of the simplest drives north

A Vaughan group books on the weekend rentals page and has very little navigating to do. The routing measured from Vaughan City Hall runs about 61 kilometres north on Highway 400 to Barrie, 35 kilometres on Highway 26 and a county road for the last stretch: about 130 kilometres and an hour fifty-six minutes before traffic and stops, with no toll roads involved. Stops and alternatives along the same 400 line are in the Toronto to Blue Mountain drive guide. Friends from elsewhere in York Region can meet a Vaughan car at a stop on the 400 before Barrie.

Highway 400 on a Friday: timing a Vaughan departure

The 400 is where a Vaughan Friday is won or lost, and the hours that matter are the late afternoon and early evening. A group leaving Vaughan at about 1 p.m. reaches the chalets near the 4:00 pm check-in; one leaving after the evening rush arrives in time for a late hot tub. On Sunday the busy direction is south, so a 11:00 am check-out and an early start home keep the return easy. In winter the stretch north of Barrie can slow down in lake-effect snow, so watch the forecast for Highway 26 as well as the 400.

Vaughan families and the Blue Mountain Village walk

For a Vaughan family weekend, the cluster’s 10-minute walk to Blue Mountain Village means parents can stroll to dinner and teenagers can walk to the shops without a driver. In winter the same walk reaches the lifts, and the ski chalets page shows the eight homes that have it. In summer the cluster pool is open May to mid-September for cluster guests, and chalets near Blue Mountain Village lists what is within that walk. Dinner in the Village and a walk back afterwards is the part of a Vaughan weekend that a day trip cannot give.

How many Vaughan guests fit: one chalet or two

Ten fit Vista or 44L; twelve fit Stella; fourteen fit Aurora, Corona or Luna, and Corona and Luna each have two gas fireplaces. Larger family groups book adjacent homes at 104 Brooker Boulevard, one household per house, on the two-chalets page. Every chalet is pet-friendly with a pet fee and has four parking spaces. A Vaughan reunion of 20 to 28 fits two adjacent chalets, each household keeping its own kitchen, three bathrooms and hot tub. Day visitors are not permitted, so friends who live nearby cannot join for the evening unless they are registered guests.
