Happy Hour Hikes are the resort’s Friday-evening fall series: a guided forty-minute climb up Blue Mountain followed by a ride down on the open-air gondola, meeting at the Columbia store from 5:30 p.m. The 2026 series runs on four Fridays from September 18 to October 9 and is complimentary for holders of the resort’s listed season passes. It is an easy first-evening plan for a Friday chalet arrival.

Check the Happy Hour Hikes pass rules before you arrive

The resort’s event page lists the hike as complimentary for 2026/27 5x7, 5x7 XL, Ikon and 2026 Explore pass holders and asks for the pass at check-in. The page does not describe an option for guests without a pass, so confirm with the resort before promising the hike to the whole group.

The resort rates the climb as intermediate to difficult; it is not a stroll.

Sunset on the October dates arrives around 6:45 p.m., so the last part of the descent by gondola is in low light, with the Village lit below.

Arrive on Friday and walk to the Columbia meeting point

Check-in at the chalets is 4 p.m. and the hike starts at 5:30, which works if the group arrives on time and walks the ten minutes from the Brooker chalets to the Village. The gondola descent lands back at the base for dinner; the gondola guide covers its hours for the rest of the weekend.

The Guitar Trail is the resort’s other September trail event.

Sturdy footwear is essential; the climb follows resort trails rather than paved paths, and the open-air gondola does not permit loose items on the way down.

Use the hike as the opener to a fall-colour weekend

Compare the fall-colour chalet collection, then plan Saturday for the Beaver Valley or the Bruce Trail and keep Sunday morning for the hot tub. Four parking spaces per chalet mean the group’s cars stay parked once the Friday hike begins.

Headlamps are sensible for the later October dates, when the descent finishes near dusk.

If part of the group has no pass, they can meet the hikers at the gondola base or a Village patio at 8 p.m., then walk back to the chalet together.
