Snowboarders enjoying a sunny day on the mountain – Can You Drive to the Top of Blue Mountain, Ontario?
Short answer
Yes. Scenic Caves Road climbs the escarpment to the summit area above Blue Mountain, and the Woodview skating loop at 201 Scenic Caves Road is about a ten-minute drive from the Mountain cluster and 44L. The ski runs themselves are reached by lift, and the Open-Air Gondola carries visitors from the Village toward the summit. Groups who want both options close by usually book from the chalets near Blue Mountain Village.

Driving up Scenic Caves Road to the top of Blue Mountain

Scenic Caves Road climbs to the escarpment top above the resort, and two destinations up there anchor most visits. Scenic Caves Nature Adventures, at 260 Scenic Caves Road, runs year-round with a paid admission; its site lists weekday hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekend and holiday hours of 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with last entry two hours before closing. In winter it switches to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Woodview, Blue Mountain's 1.1-kilometre mountaintop skating loop, is reached via the same summit area. Our Woodview visit page notes the P5 parking signs and the short walk from the lot, and says to confirm the operating day before driving up.

When the Open-Air Gondola beats the car for the summit view

The road gets you to the escarpment top, but not to the ski-hill summit above the Village. For that, the resort's Open-Air Gondola leaves from the Village lift plaza and carries riders toward the summit, with views of the escarpment and Georgian Bay. The gondola has its own age, height and loading rules, set out on our gondola visit page.

From the eight Mountain-cluster chalets the Village is a ten-minute walk, so a group can ride up without moving a car. Hikers can use the resort's Explore Park trails instead, which require a qualifying day ticket or season pass, or follow the escarpment sections of the trail described in our Bruce Trail guide.

Fitting a summit trip into a Blue Mountain chalet weekend

A drive up Scenic Caves Road takes little time from any Blue View base: about ten minutes from Brooker Boulevard and 44L, about fifteen from Aqua Villa. That makes it an easy half-day, leaving the afternoon for the bay or the Village. In winter, treat any escarpment road as a winter road and check conditions before setting out.

For the best views of the hill from home, our answer on chalets with mountain views lists the cluster chalets with ski-hill views from the balcony.
