Aerial view of a ski village in winter – Is Craigleith a Good Area to Stay? Blue Mountains, Ontario
Short answer
Yes, if your group wants the shoreline more than the ski-hill bustle. Craigleith is the stretch of The Blue Mountains where Highway 26 runs between the escarpment and Georgian Bay, east of the resort, with a provincial park, a Town beach and the Georgian Trail on its doorstep. Blue View's chalets near Craigleith are the eight cluster homes at 104 Brooker Boulevard, a few minutes' drive west, and our waterfront Aqua Villa sits on the shore road itself, 0.8 km from the Craigleith Heritage Depot. The trade-off is simple: from the shore, Blue Mountain Village is a drive rather than a walk.

What a Craigleith stay puts on your doorstep

Three public places define the area. Craigleith Provincial Park is an Ontario Parks day-use site on the bay with a shale shoreline and a reservable picnic shelter; Ontario Parks listed April 10 to October 18 as its 2026 operating season. Northwinds Beach, at 209605 Highway 26, is the Town's sandy waterfront park, with a playground, washrooms and paid parking, open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. The Craigleith Heritage Depot, a former railway station, now holds a museum, archives and a library.

The Georgian Trail crosses the same strip on the old rail line. The Town's trail map describes it as relatively flat, running from Meaford through The Blue Mountains to Collingwood, which makes it the family bike ride of the area. Craigleith Ski Club and Alpine Ski Club are close by too, though both are private members' clubs.

Who Craigleith suits as a Blue Mountains base, and who it does not

It suits families who want a beach morning without a long drive, cyclists who plan to use the Georgian Trail, member families at the Craigleith or Alpine clubs, and groups who would rather end the evening on a quiet shore than in a busy village. Collingwood-heavy trips work too: downtown is about 15 minutes east by car.

It suits a group less well when the plan depends on walking to the lifts, the Village restaurants and the après bars. Nothing on the Craigleith shore is a walk to Blue Mountain Village, so every night out needs a driver or a taxi. Our answer on taxis and rideshare at Blue Mountain explains how thin that service can be on peak nights.

Booking a Blue View chalet for a Craigleith-area stay

Two options cover the area. Aqua Villa is the only Blue View house on the water: four bedrooms, four bathrooms, room for 10, a hot tub on the balcony facing Georgian Bay and a sandy public beach steps away. By road it is 0.5 km from Northwinds Beach and 1.6 km from the provincial park, and the Village is a 5-minute drive.

Groups larger than ten, or anyone who also wants the Village walk, should look at the eight chalets at 104 Brooker Boulevard, each sleeping 10 to 14, which can be booked side by side when the dates are free. From there the provincial park is 5.7 km (about 10 minutes) and Northwinds Beach 3.6 km. Every route is set out in chalets near Craigleith Provincial Park.

Related questions

Is Craigleith part of Collingwood?

No. Craigleith is part of the Town of The Blue Mountains; Collingwood is a separate town to the east, about 15 minutes away by car.

Can you walk to Blue Mountain Village from Craigleith?

We do not treat it as a walk. Aqua Villa is a 5-minute drive from the Village; the cluster chalets at 104 Brooker Boulevard are the ones with the 10-minute walk.

Is the Craigleith shoreline sandy?

In places. The Town lists Northwinds Beach as sandy, while Craigleith Provincial Park has a shale shoreline. Check conditions before swimming at either.
