What can forfeit the security deposit at a Blue View chalet?

Balcony view from a mountain chalet over snowy peaks – What Forfeits a Blue View Security Deposit? | Ontario
Short answer
Going over the chalet’s maximum occupancy or drawing a noise complaint each forfeits the full deposit. Parking more than four vehicles, smoking in a chalet, hot tub or steam room, and illegal drug use each forfeit a fixed amount, fireworks carry their own fine, and the pet rules add two more charges. Groups that size the chalet to the headcount, such as one of the chalets that sleep 14, rarely come near the list.

The forfeiture list in Blue View’s deposit policy

The policies page lists exactly what reduces the deposit. Damage aside, these are the items:

  • Exceeding maximum occupancy: full forfeiture.
  • Noise complaints: full forfeiture.
  • Parking more than four vehicles: a fixed partial forfeiture.
  • Smoking in chalets, hot tubs or steam rooms: a forfeiture equal to the whole deposit.
  • Illegal drug use: the same amount again.
  • Fireworks: a separate fine.
  • Pets: fees for dogs on beds or couches or fur left on furniture, and a forfeiture if a pet gets into a pool, hot tub or steam room.

The two rules that cost a chalet group the entire deposit

Occupancy and noise are the expensive ones. Each chalet has a published maximum: 10 at Vista, Aqua Villa and 44L, 12 at Stella, 13 at Omega and Vega, and 14 at Aurora, Corona, Luna and Prima. Day visitors are prohibited, so a friend who drops in for the evening counts against the rule too.

Noise is measured against the Town of The Blue Mountains noise bylaw, which Blue View adopts around the clock: noise “likely to disturb inhabitants” is prohibited at any hour, and violations can bring the OPP and fines on top of the deposit. Our quiet hours answer shows how groups handle evenings outside.

How the Blue View deposit hold comes back in full

The deposit is authorized on your credit card on check-in day, not charged, and released seven business days after departure when there is no damage and no policy violation. The basics are in the security deposit answer; the practical version is a headcount that matches the chalet, four cars or fewer (see the fifth-car answer), nobody smoking indoors or in the tub, and dogs kept out of the water.

For a group spread across two or three chalets, run that check per chalet. Each one has its own maximum, its own four spaces and its own deposit rules, so a quiet chalet next door does not offset a fifth car or an extra sleeper in yours. Organizers who brief every household before arrival, rather than at the door, are the ones who see the hold drop off the card untouched.

Related questions

Is the deposit taken if nothing goes wrong?

No. It is an authorization, not a charge, and it is released seven business days after departure when there is no damage or policy violation.

Can one noise complaint really cost the whole deposit?

Yes. The policy lists noise complaints as a full forfeiture, the same as exceeding maximum occupancy.

Does a dog in the pool or hot tub count against the deposit?

Yes. Pets may not use pools, hot tubs or steam rooms, and the policy sets that forfeiture at the full deposit amount.

Are fireworks taken from the deposit?

Fireworks appear on the forfeiture list with their own fine rather than a share of the deposit. No Blue View chalet permits them.
