Balcony view from a mountain chalet over snowy peaks – What to Check in the First Hour at a Rental Chalet | Ontario
Short answer
Everything you would want fixed or noted. Blue View’s tenant obligations ask guests to report deficiencies within one hour of check-in, so the lead guest should walk the chalet before the group spreads out: hot tub, sauna or steam room if there is one, kitchen appliances, beds, bathrooms and any visible damage. Check-in is 4:00 pm, so a group arriving for a weekend chalet stay has until about 5:00 pm to report.

A first-hour checklist for a Blue View chalet, floor by floor

The Brooker chalets are three-level homes with the kitchen and living room on the top floor, queen bedrooms on the main level and bunk rooms below, so the walk-through splits neatly by floor.

  • Top floor: oven, stove, fridge, dishwasher and microwave switch on; the gas fireplace lights; the Smart TV powers up; the balcony door locks.
  • Main level: beds made, linens and towels out, bathrooms with working showers and toilets.
  • Lower level: bunk rooms in order and every bunk ladder secure.
  • Wherever they are: the washer and dryer, and at Corona, Stella, Luna and Prima the sauna or steam room heating up.
  • Outside: hot tub warm and running, BBQ lit, four parking spaces free.
  • Safety: smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, fire extinguisher and first aid kit where you can see them.

Why Blue View’s one-hour reporting window matters to the group

Reporting early draws a clean line between what you found and what happened while you were there. A chip in a counter, a stain on a sofa or a broken bunk ladder reported at 4:30 pm is the chalet’s history; found at check-out, it is harder to place, and damage is what the security deposit protects against.

The window also starts the clock on anything the team needs to fix. If the hot tub or sauna is not working, the hot tub malfunction answer explains the policy, and who to contact gives the channels and what to put in the message.

Sharing the first-hour walk-through in a big group

Fourteen people arriving at once will scatter to claim bedrooms. Give the first hour a structure: the lead guest takes the top floor and the outside, one person each takes the main and lower levels, and everyone else unloads cars. Photograph anything worth reporting and send one message, not five. In a two-chalet group, each chalet does its own walk-through, since each booking has its own deposit.

Related questions

What counts as a deficiency?

The policy does not define it. Treat anything broken, missing, dirty or not working as worth reporting in the first hour.

What if we arrive late in the evening?

The window runs from your check-in, so do the walk-through when you get in and report straight away.

Is the hot tub supposed to be ready at 4:00 pm?

Check it in the walk-through. If it is not working, report it within the hour with the rest of your list.
