Picking a Collingwood circle for children on bikes
The network runs about sixty kilometres, linking neighbourhoods, parks, the waterfront and downtown, and it is made of named circle routes rather than one ride everyone must finish. The Town lists Harbour Circle at 4.2 kilometres, East Circle at 5.8 and West Circle at 7.7. Harbour Circle takes in the waterfront and the Arboretum, which suits younger riders; East Circle links the Train Trail, Pretty River and Sunset Point. Surfaces mix pavement, granular path, boardwalk and natural ground, so check the whole loop before a child on narrow tyres commits to it. Agree on a turnaround spot before setting out, and tell faster riders where to wait.
Two families, two chalets, one Collingwood riding plan
Two families of six or seven fit side-by-side chalets, each with its own kitchen and hot tub. Aurora and Vista stand at the pool end of the row and sleep 24 between them, and from May to mid-September the shared heated pool is right beside them for the afternoon after a ride. Each chalet has four parking spaces, and the policy caps each booking at four vehicles, so a car with a bike rack plus a second car per family fits easily. Each family keeps its own house, so bedtimes and early starts do not collide, and the shared pool becomes the meeting point in season.
Load the bikes the night before. With the trail-map pickup about 15 minutes away, the ride can start mid-morning and finish before lunch.
Collingwood map pickup and riding out of season
The Town lists trail maps at the museum at 45 St. Paul Street, at Town Hall and at the library, each subject to opening hours, so download the map before leaving if a pickup point might be closed. Most recreational trails are not winter-maintained, and groomed routes are not plowed or sanded, which makes a winter visit a walking day rather than a riding one. For a longer trail ride, the Georgian Trail guide is the next read, and the trails near the chalets answer covers routes closer to home.
