Durham Region to Blue Mountain: the 401 west and the 400 north

A Durham group books on the weekend rentals page and crosses the top of Toronto to get there. The routing measured from Oshawa City Hall runs about 55 kilometres west on Highway 401 to Highway 400, about 76 kilometres north to Barrie, 35 on Highway 26 and a county road to finish: about 201 kilometres and two hours forty-six minutes before traffic and stops. Households in Whitby, Ajax and Pickering start farther west on the 401, so their drive is shorter than the Oshawa figure; Clarington’s is longer. Whatever the start, the last hour is the same Highway 26 run from Barrie.

The 407 ETR question for Durham drivers

The measured route stays on the toll-free 401 and 400. The 407 ETR is a toll road that some drivers choose to avoid the 401 through Toronto; that is a cost-and-time trade each driver makes, and this page does not measure it. Whichever line the group picks, the routes meet on Highway 400 north, and from Barrie it is the same Highway 26 run as other groups coming up the 400. Chalets near Toronto covers that shared stretch.

Timing a Durham Friday around the 401

The 401 through Toronto is the part of the trip that decides the arrival time. A Durham group that leaves before the Friday afternoon build-up, or after the evening rush, spends less of the weekend in traffic, and with check-in from 4:00 pm there is no reason to fight rush hour to arrive early. In winter, add time for squalls north of Barrie, and read the winter cottage rentals guide before a February trip. On Sunday, a 11:00 am check-out lets the group choose its own time for the 401 home.

Choosing a chalet for a Durham Region family or crew

Ten fit Aqua Villa, on the bay with four bathrooms; twelve fit Stella, which has a dry sauna; thirteen fit Omega or Vega; fourteen fit Aurora or Prima, Prima with a steam room. A Durham hockey family, a reunion or a friends’ weekend of 20 or more books side-by-side chalets on the two-chalets page. Every chalet has a private year-round hot tub, a full kitchen and four parking spaces, and one dog is welcome with the pet fee. A larger Durham team or reunion takes three or more cluster chalets; the large group rentals page has the capacity ladder.
