The drive from Toronto to the chalets: Highway 400, then Highway 26

From downtown or Etobicoke the route is Highway 400 north past Barrie, Highway 26 west through Stayner and Collingwood, then the last few minutes to the chalet address. There are no tolls, the road is divided highway as far as Barrie, and the total is about 150 kilometres: one and a half hours in clear conditions, two in ordinary traffic, two and a half on a winter Friday evening. Turn-by-turn detail, the squall-day alternatives and where to stop are in the Toronto to Blue Mountain drive guide, and how far Blue Mountain is from Toronto gives the figures for Pearson and the airport approach.

Leaving Toronto on a Friday: timing a chalet weekend by season

Highway 400 is at its worst between about four and seven on Friday evenings and on Sunday afternoons; a group that leaves the city by early afternoon, or after eight, saves the better part of an hour. In winter, add time for lake-effect squalls north of Barrie and read winter cottage rentals near Toronto before a February drive. In summer the same rule applies to the Civic and Labour Day long weekends, when Highway 26 through Collingwood slows on Friday night and Sunday afternoon. Check-in is 4:00 pm, which is why most Toronto groups leave work early rather than early morning.

Getting to the chalets from Toronto without a car

A coach runs from Toronto to Collingwood and Blue Mountain on a seasonal schedule, and a local bus and taxis cover the last leg; the options, times and what a car-free group gives up are in the bus from Toronto to Blue Mountain and visiting Blue Mountain without a car. The eight cluster chalets are the car-free choice because the Village, the lifts and the base-area restaurants are a 10-minute walk; Aqua Villa and 44L are a 5-minute drive from the resort and suit groups with vehicles. Every chalet includes free parking for four cars.

Which chalet a Toronto group books: weekends, ski trips and the bay

A regular two-night weekend follows the weekend rentals page; a ski weekend follows the ski chalets page, where the cluster’s walk to the lifts does the work; a summer group that wants the beach picks Aqua Villa on Georgian Bay. Two families from the city take two adjacent chalets. The companion pages for Peel and Hamilton groups are chalets for Mississauga and Brampton groups and chalets for Hamilton and Burlington groups.
