Booking a hiking club weekend into three neighbouring chalets

A club of 30 to 40 fits Omega, Vega and Corona, three neighbours that sleep 40 in 15 bedrooms. Each has its own kitchen, three bathrooms and an in-unit washer and dryer, and Corona adds a dry sauna. Split the houses by pace group or by car, so each morning’s departures leave from one door. Every chalet books on its own live calendar; reserve all three on the same day. A smaller club of 12 to 14 needs only one of them.

Trailheads for a hiking club, with drive times

By car from the cluster, before traffic:
  • Petun Conservation Area, about 15 minutes: Bruce Trail terrain with cliffs, rock faces and crevices; dawn to dusk, paid parking.
  • Loree Forest, about 25 minutes: paid parking on 21st Sideroad; Ontario Trails describes a 7.1-km loop.
  • Metcalfe Rock and Pretty River Valley, about 25 minutes each.
  • Duncan Escarpment, about 30 minutes: a nature reserve with no visitor facilities. Devil’s Glen, also about 30: a gated park reached on foot.
  • Old Baldy, about 40 minutes; Hoggs Falls, about 50.
Route notes are in where to stay for Duncan Escarpment and the Bruce Trail Blue Mountain section guide.

Car shuttles and trailhead parking for a hiking club

A linear hike needs cars at both ends. Each chalet has four parking spaces, so three chalets hold twelve cars, and a fifth car at any one chalet costs part of the deposit; drop extra drivers at the far trailhead rather than bringing more vehicles. Trailhead lots fill too. At Pretty River Valley, Ontario Parks asks visitors to return another time when parking is full; at Metcalfe Rock, Grey County asks visitors not to park on the road. Check-in is 4:00 pm Friday and check-out 11:00 am Sunday, so a Sunday hike starts after the cars are packed.

Muddy boots, packed lunches and dogs on a hiking club weekend

Boots come off at the door; socks and layers go through the washer and dryer. Each kitchen handles its own house’s packed lunches, and shared gas fire pits sit between the chalets for the evening. One dog per chalet is standard, with a pet fee; at the property dogs stay leashed outdoors and walk on public roads only, never through neighbours’ yards. The resort’s Happy Hour Hikes ran on Friday evenings in fall 2026, a model for a club’s arrival-night walk. Corona’s dry sauna is the end-of-day reward, and the dryer has socks ready for Sunday.

Hiking club weekends: frequently asked questions

Which trailhead is closest to the chalets?

Petun Conservation Area, about 15 minutes by car from the cluster, with Bruce Trail access, cliffs and rock faces.

How many cars can a hiking club bring?

Four per chalet. Three neighbouring chalets take twelve; a fifth car at any one chalet costs part of the security deposit.

Do any trailheads lack washrooms?

Pretty River Valley has no visitor facilities or washrooms, and Ontario Parks lists no visitor facilities at Duncan Escarpment. Plan stops before you leave.

Can local club members join us at the chalet for dinner?

No. Only registered overnight guests may be on the property, so members who live nearby meet the group on the trail or in town.

Can a hiking club book just one chalet?

Yes. A club of 10 to 14 fits one chalet: Corona sleeps 14 with a dry sauna, and Vista sleeps ten with a twin room for members who want separate beds.
