The Devil’s Key is a Happy Trails Racing trail race on the Bruce Trail around Devil’s Glen Country Club, on County Road 124 near Duntroon. The 2026 race on Saturday, August 22 offered The Beast at 66.6 km, The Half Beast at 33.3 km and The Mini Beast at 16.66 km, with nearly 6,000 feet of climbing on the full course. The club is about half an hour from the Blue View chalets, which suits a runner and crew who want a real bed the night before.
Picking a Devil’s Key distance and start wave
Runners and crew who would rather not camp can compare our chalets for Duntroon trips once they know who is entered. In 2026 the three distances started in waves an hour apart, so one car can carry runners for all three:
- The Beast, 66.6 km: 7:30 a.m. start, with nearly 6,000 feet of cumulative climbing on the Bruce Trail system.
- The Half Beast, 33.3 km: 8:30 a.m.
- The Mini Beast, 16.66 km: 9:30 a.m.
The organizer sums the course up as a little bit of heaven and a little bit of hell, which is fair warning for anyone choosing the long one on short training.
The drive from 104 Brooker Boulevard to Devil’s Glen
Plan on roughly 30 minutes to the club by way of Collingwood and County Road 124, the same estimate our Devil’s Glen Country Club answer uses for winter skiers. Duntroon village itself is about 25 minutes away in our drive-time table. Do not confuse the club with Devil’s Glen Provincial Park, a separate site on the same road; follow the race’s own parking directions.
Recovering after the Devil’s Key at the chalet
After a day on escarpment climbs, the private hot tub is the first stop. Corona and Stella add a dry sauna and Luna and Prima a steam room, which is worth knowing when a group chooses between chalets. With a 4 p.m. check-in and two-night minimum, Friday and Saturday nights cover the race, and Sunday is for a slow breakfast before the 11 a.m. checkout.
Runners chasing a second August race can look at the Falling Water Trail Marathon, two weeks earlier in 2026, and our trail-running chalet page covers both.
