Summerfolk Music and Crafts Festival: An Owen Sound Weekend From a Chalet

The festival’s info page is blunt: Owen Sound is a city of about 22,000, its hotels, motels and campgrounds fill early on Summerfolk weekend, and on-site camping is for volunteers only. That makes a summer chalet at Blue Mountain a practical option for a family or friend group, and the 2027 dates are already set: Friday, August 20 to Sunday, August 22.

Each Blue View chalet sleeps 10 to 14 with a full kitchen, a private hot tub, linens and towels. With a 4 p.m. check-in and a two-night minimum, a Thursday arrival lets the group settle in before the Friday evening concerts.

In 2026 the gates opened around 4 p.m. on Friday with music from 5:30 p.m. until 1 a.m., at 10 a.m. on Saturday with music from 11 a.m. until 1 a.m., and at 10 a.m. on Sunday with music from 10:30 a.m. until 11 p.m. Expect a similar shape in 2027 and confirm it on the festival’s schedule page once posted.

Our drive-time check puts Owen Sound City Hall about 62 minutes from 104 Brooker Boulevard, before traffic and stops, by Highway 26 through Thornbury and Meaford. Festival parking is in the north lot of the Rexall Health Team building on 1st Avenue West and on nearby residential streets. A 1 a.m. finish followed by an hour in the car is a lot to ask of a driver, so most groups pick one late night and leave earlier on the others.

Summerfolk runs rain or shine, with tents at most stages. The amphitheatre allows lawn chairs and tarps but not umbrellas, so pack chairs and ponchos in the car.
