Are the chalet hot tubs open in winter?

Every chalet in the portfolio lists a year-round private hot tub — the eight Mountain-cluster chalets on Brooker Boulevard, Aqua Villa on Georgian Bay and 44L in Tyrolean Village. None of them is drained or covered for the season. A January stay is exactly what the tubs are for: a day on the hill, a ten-minute walk back from the Village, and a soak in falling snow with the ski lights on the escarpment behind you. Guests in the cluster chalets get the added trick of a sauna in five of the ten chalets, which makes the winter cold-plunge-and-warm-up cycle possible without leaving the deck.

Hot tubs are serviced after each stay, so the water can still be climbing toward temperature when you check in — set the heat to a maximum of 104°F and give it a couple of hours on the first evening. The jets toggle with the Jet button (press twice on, twice off), and the floating chlorinator has to stay in the water; if it gets lifted out, submerge it upside down until the bubbles stop and let it float again. No soaps, bath oils or additives go in the tub, and the practical winter limit is eight people at a time — more than that and the water overflows, which in February means an ice sheet on the deck. Blue Mountain sits on an escarpment that funnels wind, and a hot tub cover left loose in a January gust can be damaged or blown off — after which the water cools fast and the tub is out of action for the rest of your stay. So the house rule is simple: whenever the tub is not in use, the cover goes back on and the bungee cords get clipped. Do that and the water holds its heat between soaks even on the coldest nights. Bring a dedicated hot tub towel per person (bath towels are supplied, but a wet towel left outside freezes stiff), a robe or big coat for the walk back inside, and something on your feet — the deck is icy.
