A family relaxing together at a mountain cabin – What Is a Single-Over-Double Bunk Bed? | Blue Mountains
Short answer
It is a bunk bed with a single mattress on top and a double mattress underneath, so one frame sleeps up to three people: one up the ladder and two sharing the lower double. Seven Blue View chalets use it, usually with a separate single bed in the same room, which is how a bunk room holds four. Families can see which chalets have them on the family chalets page.

Which Blue View chalets have single-over-double bunks

Eleven bedrooms across seven of the Brooker chalets use this frame. All of them are on the lower level:

  • Two rooms each: Aurora (Bedrooms 4 and 5), Corona, Luna and Prima (Bedrooms 4 and 5, each with a separate single).
  • One room each: Omega, Vega and Stella (Bedroom 4, with a separate single).

Aurora’s Bedroom 5 is the one exception to the tidy pattern; it is listed as single-over-double bunk beds with no number and no separate single, so confirm its layout before planning a full house. Every chalet’s rooms page, such as Luna rooms and beds, lists the beds room by room.

Filling a single-over-double bunk room with kids

The frame works best for siblings. Two younger children share the lower double, an older child takes the top single, and the separate single goes to whoever has outgrown sharing. That makes four in one room, and a chalet with two such rooms can sleep eight children downstairs while the adults take the three queens.

A few planning notes from the layout. The bunk rooms are a floor below the main-level queens in every Brooker chalet, so parents of very young children may prefer the lower-level queen in Omega, Vega, Corona, Stella, Luna or Prima, which sits on the same floor as the bunks. And the top bunk is the one bed in the room to assign with care; layouts for adults and kids covers the floor-by-floor split.

Single bunks at Vista, Omega, Vega and 44L

A single bunk is the other bunk at Blue View: a single over a single, two separate beds in one frame. Vista’s Bedroom 3 and 44L’s Bedroom 4 each have two of them, giving four separate bunk positions, and Omega and Vega’s Bedroom 5 has one plus a single bed. Nobody shares a mattress in these rooms, which suits older kids and teens. The bunk-room capacity answer counts every chalet.
