A tasting weekend is the one group trip where transport is the booking. Before anything else, name a designated driver for each car or book licensed transport, and agree that nobody who has been tasting drives. • Annan, about 65 minutes. Coffin Ridge Winery is a dedicated excursion, with wine-and-cider flights, non-alcoholic choices and a separate food menu.

Tasting rooms think in sixes and tens, not in chalets of fourteen. Spy’s fire shelter takes four to ten, Georgian Hills and Bruce Wine Bar switch to group arrangements at six, and Grey & Gold asks larger groups to reserve. A group of twelve in Stella is therefore two tasting parties of six, perhaps on different afternoons. Twenty-plus friends in two chalets side by side, such as Stella and Luna, split by car and by venue rather than arriving anywhere as one crowd.
