A snowshoe group of ten at 44L in Tyrolean Village

44L is a vintage 1950s chalet in Tyrolean Village, about five minutes by car from the resort. It sleeps ten: three queen rooms, two upstairs and one down, and a room with two single bunk frames. Its fireplace, deck hot tub and in-unit washer and dryer cover a snowy weekend, and the kitchen lists a freezer and a kitchen island for laying out lunches. A club of 20 or more books two neighbours in the Brooker cluster instead, such as Aurora and Vista, which sleep 24.

Where snowshoes are welcome, and where a snowshoe group should not go

Highlands Nordic in Duntroon, about 30 minutes away, lists snowshoeing alongside ski trails, with equipment rental; its winter hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm once snowfall allows. Wasaga Nordic and Trail Centre, about 40 minutes from the cluster and Aqua Villa, offers snowshoeing, rentals and warming facilities. Rentals and trail access are arranged with each centre; a chalet booking includes neither. Kolapore is the trail to skip: in winter its association asks walkers, snowshoers and cyclists to stay off the ski network. Planning notes are in where to stay for Highlands Nordic.

Winter trailhead access for a snowshoe group on the escarpment

Self-guided outings on the escarpment need a road plan. At Petun Conservation Area, the conservation authority says 2nd Line south of the property is not maintained in winter, so approach from the north; access is dawn to dusk with paid parking. At Metcalfe Rock, the Town warns that snow is not removed from the parking area, and visitors should not park on the road when the lot is full. Loree Forest has paid visitor parking on 21st Sideroad. See where to stay for Petun before you go.

Dogs, wet gear and evenings on a snowshoe weekend

One dog per stay is standard, with a pet fee; a second may be considered by size with confirmation. At the chalets, dogs stay leashed outdoors, keep off beds and couches, and stay out of the hot tub. Walks follow public roads only, never through neighbouring driveways or yards. Highlands Nordic limits dogs to a designated route. Wet gaiters and socks go through the washer and dryer at 44L, Vista and Stella; Aqua Villa lists a washing machine without a dryer. Evenings at 44L gather round its fireplace; Vista and Stella each have a gas fireplace too.

Snowshoe groups: frequently asked questions

Which chalet suits a snowshoe group of twelve?

Stella sleeps 12 with three queen rooms, a bunk room and a twin room, plus a private dry sauna for the evening. 44L, Vista and Aqua Villa each sleep ten.
