Boxing Week is the stretch from December 26 to December 31, and at Blue Mountain it is a distinct booking window: Christmas groups have left, New Year's groups have not arrived, and the resort's holiday programme is still running. For families who keep Christmas Day at home, it is the week to come up. The dates are on the Boxing Week chalet rentals page; the Christmas chalet guide and Blue Mountain in December cover the rest of the month.
Why Boxing Week is its own window at Blue Mountain
Two holiday peaks sit on either side of it: Christmas Eve to Boxing Day, and December 30 to January 2. A chalet booked for both can still have four or five open nights in between, which is why a Boxing Week search sometimes finds a house that a Christmas search does not. If you are booking late, the late holiday booking guide explains how to look.
What is running between Christmas and New Year's
Blue Mountain Village's Holiday Magic light trail has run from mid-November into early January, so the evening walk through the Village is on; the event page carries the current dates. The ski season has normally been under way for several weeks by Boxing Day, but opening depends on snow, so check the opening day page and the resort before you count on the lifts. Big Dipper tubing and Woodview skating are the non-lift options; both are seasonal and both use their own tickets.
A Boxing Week day plan for a group of ten to fourteen
December 26: arrive for the 4 pm check-in, walk the 10 minutes into the Village for the lights. December 27 and 28: the skiers ski, the rest tube or skate, and the adults book Scandinave Spa (guests 14 and over). December 29: a Collingwood day for the downtown shops and the museum. December 30: a long breakfast and the hot tub. December 31: checkout at 11 am, or stay on; the New Year's Eve at Blue Mountain page covers the Village's own countdown. Thornbury's and Meaford's Christmas markets have already finished by Boxing Week, so plan them into a December weekend instead.
Which chalet for Boxing Week
The ranking in the Christmas week chalet guide holds for Boxing Week: The Aurora for three couples, The Corona, The Luna or The Prima for a sauna, The Stella for twelve. The private hot tub is the week's anchor and holds eight at a time; the shared pool is closed. Groups above 14 pair two chalets on the two-chalets page.
Boxing Day on Highway 26 and the 4 pm check-in
December 26 is a travel day for every family leaving Christmas somewhere else, so the afternoon drive north is slower than a normal Saturday. Check-in is 4 pm; arriving at 6 pm with the groceries already bought is a better plan than arriving at 4 pm and shopping. The drive guide covers the route and its winter-road notes the conditions.
Groceries and holiday hours in the last week of the year
Shops run holiday hours between Christmas and New Year's, and the first dinner should not depend on a store being open at 7 pm on Boxing Day. Shop before you leave, or book grocery delivery to the chalets for the day after arrival. Every chalet kitchen has a dishwasher (Aqua Villa excepted), an oven, a microwave and a kettle; the Corona, Luna, Prima, Stella and 44L list a freezer, which is where the Christmas leftovers go.
Boxing Week with teenagers versus Boxing Week with toddlers
With teenagers the week is skiing, tubing, the Village on foot and Axed at the Bunker; the teens guide has the list. With toddlers it is Woodview in daylight, the hot tub with a parent in the water, and the young-kids chalet ranking for the house itself. Both versions need the monitor and the four parking spots.
Staying through to New Year's
A Boxing Week booking that runs to January 1 or 2 takes in the Village's New Year's Eve programme; the NYE at Blue Mountain page has the verified details and the New Year's rentals page has the dates. Book the extension as one stay rather than two bookings so the house does not change hands on December 30.
Boxing Week logistics
Shops and services keep holiday hours in the last week of December, so do the big grocery run before Christmas or use grocery delivery to the chalets. Highway 26 is busiest on the afternoons of December 26 and January 1; the drive guide covers the timing. Quiet hours and the registered-guests-only rule apply through the holidays; see the quiet-hours answer.
