Three-Generation Christmas Week Itinerary, Ontario

By the Blue View Chalets Team · Published: October 4, 2026 · 8 min read

Three generations at one chalet for Christmas means three speeds: grandparents who want a chair by the fire, parents who want one afternoon off and children who want snow. This itinerary runs December 23 to 30 at a cluster chalet and gives each day one plan for everyone and one escape hatch. Book on the Christmas chalet rentals page; the multi-generational vacation guide covers the chores and the money.

The house for three generations: why The Aurora

The Aurora has three queen bedrooms on the main level, so the grandparents and both sets of parents sleep on one floor with no stairs between them, and the two bunk rooms downstairs take up to five children. It sleeps 14 with dining for 10, a gas fireplace and a balcony facing the hill; check the bed list. A larger family pairs it with the chalet next door via the two-chalets page.

December 23: arrival and the first walk to the Village

Check-in is 4 pm. Unpack, start the fireplace and walk the 10 minutes into Blue Mountain Village for the Holiday Magic lights, which have run from mid-November into early January; the event page carries the current dates. Dinner at the chalet; the big grocery shop happens before this day, or through grocery delivery to the chalets.

December 24: tubing for the children, the spa for the adults

Morning at Big Dipper Snow Tubing at the Village base: every rider goes down alone and must get in and out of the tube unaided, so confirm the rules for the youngest before you promise it. Afternoon: the grandparents and one parent take the children home while the other adults go to Scandinave Spa, which admits guests 14 and over; the minimum-age answer explains. Christmas Eve dinner at the chalet.

December 25: Christmas Day at the house

Nothing is booked. The private hot tub holds eight at a time with the cover on when empty, so it runs on a rota: children in daylight with a parent in the water, grandparents mid-afternoon, parents after bedtime. The shared outdoor pool is a summer facility and is closed. If the family wants to be outside, the Village is a walk, not a drive.

December 26: skiing or skating, depending on the season

The ski season has normally opened by Boxing Day, but opening depends on snow, so check the opening day page and the resort; lift tickets, rentals and lessons are per person and separate from the chalet, and the lessons and lift tickets answer explains what a beginner's lesson includes. Non-skiers go to Woodview Mountaintop Skating, the 1.1-kilometre summit loop about ten minutes' drive away, after confirming the day's hours.

December 27: Collingwood for the museum, the cinema and a market check

Collingwood is about 15 minutes. The Collingwood Museum suits the grandparents and the youngest children; Galaxy Cinemas is the dated-showtime fallback for a wet day. The Collingwood Christmas market has run on Fridays through late December in past years, so check its page for whether a market falls inside your week.

December 28: the long outing, Scenic Caves or Thornbury

Either Scenic Caves above the resort (confirm which trails and the suspension bridge are open in winter) or a Thornbury morning with the Thornbury Bakery Cafe and the harbour, about 15 minutes east. Keep the afternoon free; by day six, three generations want a slow one.

Assigning the Aurora's bedrooms across three generations

The Aurora's three main-level queens go to the grandparents and the two parent couples, so no adult uses the stairs at night; the two downstairs rooms, a single-over-double bunk with a single bed and a single-over-double bunk, take up to five children with the oldest on the top bunks. The house lists three bathrooms, so the morning schedule matters. Grandparents who cannot manage the stairs between the main level and the upper-level kitchen should read the accessibility answer before the house is chosen, because every cluster chalet is three storeys.

Eight days of groceries for three generations

One refrigerator and one kitchen feed fourteen people for a week only with a plan: a big shop before arrival, a second mid-week run to Collingwood about 15 minutes away, or grocery delivery to the chalet timed for December 26. The Aurora's kitchen has a dishwasher, an oven, a stove and a microwave; it does not list a freezer, so the Christmas turkey is a fresh one. The feeding-twenty meal plan scales to fourteen with the children's menu simplified.

Keeping the hot tub and the fireplace safe with small children

The private hot tub holds eight, has its cover on when empty and needs an adult in the water with every child; the gas fireplace is the warm spot, not a play spot. The chalet inventories do not list stair gates, so bring one for the stairs between the bedroom floor and the kitchen. The hot-tub capacity answer and the baby and toddler answer cover the specifics.

December 29 and 30: the last full day and checkout

December 29 is the children's choice (tubing again, or skating) and the adults' last hot tub. December 30: checkout is 11 am; families staying for the countdown should book through to January 1 on the New Year's rentals page and read the New Year's Eve at Blue Mountain page. Quiet hours and the registered-guests-only rule apply all week; the quiet-hours answer has the detail.
